Adolescent counseling is a form of therapy that helps teens between the ages of 12 and 18 address any issues they may be facing. This type of counseling provides a safe and supportive environment for adolescents to express their feelings, work through difficult emotions, and develop healthy coping mechanisms. Adolescent counselors have expertise in working with teenagers to help them understand their thoughts, feelings, and behavior.
The goal of adolescent counseling is to empower young people as they transition into adulthood by helping them learn skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Adolescents in counseling can expect to focus on topics such as bullying, depression, anxiety, identity formation, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem building and stress management. Counselors employ different techniques based on the individual’s needs such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), family systems theory or psychodynamic approaches.
